California Service Center: I-140 and I-129 times in 2026

California Service Center (CSC)

WAC I-129 (O-1), also I-485, I-765, I-131, I-539

The California Service Center (CSC) is one of the two centers that historically adjudicate O-1 petitions on Form I-129. A receipt number beginning with WAC usually means CSC is handling the case. The prefix is the first three letters of the 13-character receipt number and points to the processing center, not to the case status.

How to read your receipt number

A USCIS receipt number is three letters followed by ten digits. The first three letters - the prefix - identify the processing center: WAC corresponds to "California Service Center (CSC)". This is routing, not status: the prefix tells you nothing about approval or denial.

How long USCIS takes now

USCIS no longer shows these forms center by center: its processing-times tool reports one office, "Service Center Operations (SCOPS)". So the honest answer to "is this center faster" is that the agency does not publish per-center speed for I-129 and I-140. The figure is the time in which 80% of cases were completed (our read of Oct 2, 2026).

Premium processing (I-907) does not change this table: it sets a 15 or 45 business-day clock for the petition. Month-by-month history: USCIS processing times; premium: how premium processing works.

What the community reports

Community members report that with premium processing an I-129 decision usually lands within the premium clock, while regular processing takes noticeably longer and depends heavily on center workload. These are member observations, not official timelines - check the calculator on uscis.gov.

This is community-chat experience, not official data. Current timelines are in the USCIS processing times.

FAQ

What does the WAC prefix in a receipt number mean?
WAC is the California Service Center prefix. It shows which center is processing your I-129 petition and carries no information about the outcome. Check current timelines in the processing-times tool on uscis.gov.
Can O-1 processing at CSC be sped up?
Yes, via premium processing (a paid USCIS service with an expedited I-129 clock). It changes speed, not the chance of approval - an officer still decides. Verify the current fee and clock on uscis.gov.
Does the receipt prefix affect the decision?
No. The prefix only shows the processing center. The decision is made by an officer based on your evidence, not on the center.

From community practice

  • Premium processing speeds up adjudication but does not raise the chance of approval - the community repeats this constantly: evidence quality decides, not speed.

  • An RFE is not a denial. Members note that a structured response with additional independent evidence often leads to approval.

  • A strong petition usually meets more than the required minimum of three criteria, with a margin on each - common advice in chats to reduce RFE risk.

From community discussions

  • «If you're planning to hire a lawyer, then first find out whether your friends in America agree to such an adventure. Because all the effort could turn out to be useless.»

community member · from public community chats

  • «The lawyer's job: advise you on the right visa type based on your credentials, request materials from you per a list, properly package it all into a sellable case and file the petition. There's also a market factor - demand has spiked sharply, and lawyers may simply ignore new clients if the case isn't interesting to them or is too complex.»

community member · from public community chats

  • «EB1 is split into 3 sub-criteria: EB11/EB1(a) - extraordinary ability; EB12/EB1(b) - outstanding researcher; and EB13/EB1(c) - multinational manager (this is like L1). EB2 is LC-based EB, unless you qualify for NIW.»
