«After experiencing a denial with lawyers and approval through self-filing, my feeling is that a lawyer is not about "writing for me"; it's about the actual submission, cleaning up the case from unnecessary elements, and other tidying tasks when you don't want to or lack the knowledge to do it yourself. Ideally, especially if you are not 100% confident in your achievements and that you definitely have 5+ criteria, try to draft a "rough draft" on your own and see what lawyers are willing to do with it.»

«Regarding lawyers. I attended two consultations and received roughly the same feedback. If you have the means for a consultation, it's never a waste. Even if you ultimately decide to file on your own. I am currently working with one lawyer on my case - but this help is really just in packaging the case. In any case, all recommendation letters and texts will be written by you - a paralegal or lawyer can guide the text in the right direction and emphasize the correct points. But you need to understand what makes your case stronger - where your unique talent and necessity for America lies))»

«I'll insert my two cents: We pay a lawyer not for their "mechanical" work - but for years of knowledge and experience to navigate around all the sharp corners. And no one knows you better than you do - so you write the cover letter yourself - and the lawyer (their team) reviews and corrects it. In my understanding, the main job of a lawyer is to develop the most successful line for you specifically and carry it through all the evidence, correcting what you write. If you have the knowledge and understanding of how to do this on your own - then there is no point in hiring a lawyer... The conclusion is that a lawyer charges not for the text - but for their experience and knowledge.»

«I see it this way - there are cases that are already ready, they just need to be correctly "put on paper". I already had the criteria, they didn't need to be bolstered. But how to successfully formulate and prove it depends on the individual. Some people can write, some cannot, some have time, some do not, etc. Probably, petitions written by a lawyer and those written independently will differ, as the lawyer has experience. But approved petitions can also be written independently. I have been writing for 2-3 hours a day since the end of September. The petition is almost ready.»

«Perhaps I am an overly ambitious woman. It seems to me that if the American system allows for self-filing of a case, it cannot be so incredibly difficult that you can't figure it out without a lawyer. Especially having experience in writing scientific papers and knowing foreign languages. In general, my plan for now is to work independently. But perhaps at some point I will find myself at an impasse and hire a lawyer. But if I do, I will look for an American one. I don't need Russian for communication.»

«If everything were fine with lawyers, there wouldn't be this group. Here, mainly, those who do it themselves, rework it, including after lawyers. Those who understand how the system works and want to create their own case and are ready for it, crossing an invisible Rubicon in perception. Mostly. I don't remember anyone here recommending a specific lawyer. Usually the opposite. Finding a good lawyer is like winning the lottery. And those who have been favored by fate are not sitting in this chat out of necessity.»
