B1/B2 - 6 posts, F-1 - 4, H-1B - 1, O-1 - 1, DV - 1, passport delivery - 1. Almost all authors are Turkish citizens.
- B1/B2 for Turkish citizens: one visa issued, one refusal under 214(b) (2 months in a new job after a gap); both authors saw more refusals than approvals in the line, one counted 7 of 10. Questions covered the purpose, job and salary, earlier travel and refusals, and fear of returning home.
- F-1: after the interview applicants got a blue 221(g) sheet and the passport was kept. In one story (June 2026) the visa was issued after 23 days and the passport came 2 days later; in another approval came within a week, but the visa was still not issued by mid-August; a student starting in spring had no news after a month.
- O-1: the status turned Issued a week after the interview (December 2025), but a month later the passport had not been returned. In another story the passport got stuck with the courier on delivery.
- Booking: in summer 2026 the nearest dates were months away (F-1 - Sep 15 when searching in June, no H-1B slots for August - September), and Ankara had earlier slots. After a refusal the calendar for the repeat-applicant category was empty.

FAQ
- Can I fly from Istanbul to a Warsaw interview?
- Only with Schengen entry rights: by member reports, without them you are not boarded on an Istanbul-Poland flight. Plan the route via the country that issued your Schengen visa.
- Do I need Turkish residency to apply in Istanbul?
- By member reports (2025) the post required Turkish residency, so applicants from Russia mostly pick other posts - in the community Istanbul mainly figures as a transit hub. Verify current rules on the Turkey ustraveldocs.
- How long is the wait for a visa interview in Istanbul?
- By the State Department wait-times table of 2026-09-17: O-1 (H, L, O, P, Q) - < 0.5 mo, B1/B2 - 4.5 mo, F, M, J - 2 mo. In the 12 published months to Feb 2026 the post issued O-1 - 118, B1/B2 - 69,566. The table is an estimate; actual slots show only in the booking system.
- Can I have the EB-1 / EB-2 immigrant-visa interview in Istanbul?
- No. It processes no immigrant visas: residents of Türkiye go to Ankara. The National Visa Center sets the post and the date; source: the State Department list of immigrant-visa posts, read 2026-10-11.

From community practice
Field chats advise gathering evidence for a specific criterion from the start, rather than bolting it onto the petition at the last moment.
The community reminds that the same piece of evidence cannot be counted under several criteria at once - the officer expects separate evidence for each.
Premium processing speeds up adjudication but does not raise the chance of approval - the community repeats this constantly: evidence quality decides, not speed.
Distilled from public community chats - observations, not legal advice.
From community discussions
«If you're a member of an organization and attach this - it'll count toward well-advanced. Or it won't count, if the officer has a question about this organization. It's like with articles: it can be 0, or it can be 100.»
Anna · from public community chats
«Look at the criteria, they're written in general terms regardless of profession: leading role, contribution, media and publications, association membership, judging, salary. Are you satisfying them? Then go ahead. Then the variety begins: athletes can realistically satisfy judging and membership, scientists - publications and contribution through citations, media personalities - publications about them in the press.»
Irina · from public community chats
«I don't know how it is for makeup artists, but as a designer with an o1 I can picture more clearly how to get a visa as a photographer. You'll need wins/awards from competitions, publications of your work at exhibitions or in magazines with your name credited, recommendation letters from people in the industry - that's not hard to get if you're sociable enough.»
